Being able to transport the audience out of mundane reality, even for a moment, and give them an escape into the seemingly impossible, that is the prize both for them and the artist himself.

The World Is My Stage
A trick’s a trick’s a trick, some might say, but for those who know, a magician who takes pride in his craft makes the world of difference between a sidewalk trickster and an artist.
Jonathan’s personal style is close-up magic, an intimate, organic form of magic that engages the audience with their surroundings via the mundane routines of life. There are no fancy props, no bunny in the hat agenda. Rather, the close-up magician uses everyday objects such as money, paper, string and cards to amaze his audience at close range. Well enough, Jonathan has had the privilege to perfect his art of close-up magic from some of the best in the trade.
After graduating in Psychology, Jonathan’s stint in the US gave him a firsthand experience how his art, which many shortchange as mere entertainment, could become relevant in society. Volunteering as a community centre counsellor, he worked daily with juvenile delinquents, many of whom originated from rough backgrounds, and were difficult to reach out to. Interestingly, magic speaks a universal language, the same way the Golden Arches does. It melted away cross cultural-boundaries and personal barriers even, enabling Jonathan to built relationships with these youths, an essential in his work here.
Today, Jonathan’s array of experience includes launches, roadshows and dinner functions for clients such as Porsche, Intel, Samsung, Watsons, Hewlett Packard, Maxis, and even local movie premiers. Voted Malaysia's top 10 magician in the year 2015 and 2017, he’s had his share of media coverage which include live TV performances on 8TV, TV3 followed by various print media. For this magician, the greatest reward from his art are the expressions on his audiences’ faces. A magician’s main task is more than to be an entertainer. He is charged with the onus of wowing his audience for the time that they have entrusted him. The way he puts it, “Being able to transport the audience out of mundane reality, even for a moment, and give them an escape into the seemingly impossible, that is the prize both for them and the artist himself.”
With all the glitz of the trade; the parties, the bright lights and celebrities, Jonathan is still very much the boy-next-door. He loves photography, music, travel, and a good weekend simply means the couch and a huge bag of Nachos with his buddies.
